Inspired by a previous competition video Brooklyn Digital Foundry made for the Lucas Museum (and which I worked on as an intern,) we coordinated with our client across the world and during ongoing COVID lockdowns to record footage of their scale-model building that we could track and composite. All of the "diagrammatic" portions of the video, where we break down the anatomy of the site plan, was executed over live footage. In addition to that, we also produced and rendered a series of realistic shots of the entire site. All of this had to be done in a matter of weeks on a tight budget, due to the constraints of the competition.
I was in charge of tracking all of the live footage with Syntheyes, and compositing these shots in Fusion and AfterEffects. Tracking was fairly time-consuming, due to the shallow depth of field and dark background in almost every shot. A few iterations of every shot were required to get a good match across the model. All orange figurines, carnival elements, cars, trees, and balloons were added with CG.
