We were hired by Perkins Eastman and Resorts World Casino to produce a video as part of their application to the NY State gambling commission, at the time they were competing with several other casinos for one of a few licenses to have table games in the NYC metro area. Resorts World was uniquely positioned by already having a video casino at the former Aquaduct Racetrack in Queens. We worked with them to quickly conceptualize and create all aspects of this, including organizing a helicopter shoot for B-Roll and CG enhanced flyovers. We also were responsible for scripting the video, editing, and generating or shooting all non-stock footage. After the gaming commission delayed the application deadline, we continued to work for about a year on several revisions and enhancements to the video submission.
I was one of the senior production artists on this project, and was responsible for tracking all helicopter shots in SynthEyes, rendering and compositing them over the original footage. I also was in charge of lighting many shots, developing the conservatory and lobby interior from a minimal CAD model, and managing the overall dataset to ensure we could render everything on time without compromising on quality. I also developed a macro for Fusion to perform temporal denoising using either a velocity pass or OpticalFlow, to help us remove a lot of noise on shots with foliage -- I continued to iterate on that over time, and it became a mainstay in our CG video production.
